Paint the Town REaD
Paint the Town REaD is a nation wide movement to promote the importance of early literacy. It uses a whole of community approach encouraging everyone to come on board to talk, read, sing, rhyme, draw and play with children every day from birth. It is based on research that shows that the early years are crucial in nurturing parent and child attachment, supporting healthy brain development, being school ready and fostering long term health and well being.
Paint the Town REaD first began in Parkes in NSW in 1998 and has now grown to include more than 90 communities across Australia.
Investing In Our Youth is excited to bring Paint the Town REaD to Bunbury and surroundings areas. This project commenced in March 2020 with funding from Lottery West. Paint the Town REaD Bunbury and Beyond will be overseen by a local committee and is seeking to work with three communities in the area. A Facebook Page Paint the Town REaD Bunbury and Beyond has been set up to provide early literacy support to families at home as well as build awareness and enthusiasm for the program.
