Our Volunteering Guru's, Bec and Raine (pictured i Our Volunteering Guru's, Bec and Raine (pictured in the middle) had the privilege of joining Volunteer South West at the two-day WA State Volunteering Conference last month — an inspiring gathering of over 250 volunteer leaders from across the state.

Hosted by Volunteering WA, the conference brought together passionate people for keynotes, workshops and conversations centred on growth, action, and meaningful impact in our communities.

With International Volunteer Day tomorrow, we’re feeling grateful for the incredible volunteers — and the leaders who guide and support them — who help make the South West stronger, safer and more connected. 🌿💛

Here’s to the people who show up, lift others up, and create change every day.

As December begins, we welcome Birak — the Noongar As December begins, we welcome Birak — the Noongar “season of the young”.

This is a time when the land warms, sea breezes bring relief, and nature pulses with new energy.

This beautiful mural — co-created by local artists and the children of Carey Park Primary School through the Bonar Bardip project — captures the spirit of Birak: warmth, renewal, and connection to Country.

In traditional Noongar culture, Birak was a time of controlled burning across the land — not destruction, but a way to care for Country, reduce fuel loads, and help plants regenerate. It was also a time of young life: fledgling birds leaving their nests, reptiles shedding their skin, and baby frogs coming of age.

This season reminds us of the power of caring for our environment, respecting traditional knowledge, and honouring our shared future.

May Birak bring warmth, creativity, and growth to us all. 😎
